Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the prevalence of sleep disturbances and their associated factors in individuals with cancer affected by COVID-19. Method: a cross-sectional study involving 1042 individuals afflicted by COVID-19, who responded to a structured questionnaire through the Google Forms platform. Among these, 45 individuals had a history of cancer and were included in the analysis. The primary outcome, sleep disturbance, was evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire. Secondary outcomes, such as sociodemographic variables, specific information regarding COVID-19, andc health conditions, were gathered through an anamnestic questionnaire. Participant characteristics pertaining to sleep disturbances were comparatively analyzed using independent samples t-test and Chi-Square test. The factors associated with the dependent variable were identified through Poisson Regression with a robust variance approach. The adopted level of significance was 5%. Results: the prevalence of sleep disturbances was 68.9%, significantly associated with a prior history of lung disease, smoking, and unintentional alterations in body weight (p<0.05). Conclusion: individuals with cancer affected by COVID-19 exhibited a notable prevalence of sleep disturbances correlated with prior lung disease, smoking, and unintentional body weight variations.
