Abstract

Introduction: The correct use of technology and application in nursing care represents a strategy to improve patient care. Therefore, it is necessary for nurses to have computer skills to provide quality care. To guarantee the development of these skills, specific indicators are required to assess the areas of opportunity as a key element in the training of health professionals. Aim: To validate the Self-assessment Nursing Informatics Competence Scale (SANICS-MX) in Mexican nurses. Methodology: A prospective and multistage descriptive design was carried out in 5 phases. Results: Stage 1: Translation of the instrument from the original version into Spanish, Stage 2: Validation of the instrument by judges' method. The Validity Index per Item (3.0) was evaluated; Validity Criterion (16%) and Content Validity Index (8.33) and the second version of the instrument was obtained. Stage 3: A pilot test was carried out on 30 nursing professionals to verify the consistency, persistence and comprehension of the items, obtaining a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.83, which indicates that it is a reliable scale. Stage 4: a final test was carried out on 160 nursing professionals, where it was found that the average age was 35 years and 42.8% had nursing studies. Stage 5. The factorial analysis and the level of reliability of the final version of the SANICS-MX scale was carried out, in which a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.943 was determined. Conclusions: The results of this study showed that SANICS-MX is valid and reliable instrument to measure computer skills and competencies in nurses.
