Abstract

Objective: To describe cases of Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis (TBEP) in children and adolescents treated at a pediatric hospital in southern Brazil, between 2011-2021. Methods: Descriptive observational study, which included cases of PETB in patients aged up to 15 years, with ICDs A15, A16, A18 and A19. Cases of Central Nervous System Tuberculosis (CNS TB) were analyzed in a secondary study to this one. The study was approved by the institution's Research Ethics Committee (CEP) under opinion number 5,310,955. Results:The research sample consisted of 14 cases. Six cases of PETB (42.9%) were associated with pulmonary TB, seven (50.0%) were cases of PETB not associated with PTB and one (7.1%) was miliary TB. Conclusion:Predominance of females, aged between 11 and 15 years, whose likely place of contagion was indoors. Half of the cases were exclusively extrapulmonary TB. Among the extrapulmonary sites, the most affected in number was the pleura, followed by lymph nodes and intestine. Cough, weight loss and lymphadenopathy were the main symptoms presented.
