Abstract

Objective: to analyze the knowledge of HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention of students in the 12th class of five Public General Secondary Schools, in the City of Lichinga, Province of Niassa. Method: this is a cross-sectional and quantitative study. A simple random sampling technique was used to select study participants. The questionnaire consisted of closed questions about HIV/AIDS and was applied to a sample of 352 students. Data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package, version 24.0. Results: regarding the transmission of HIV/AIDS (percentage of error) Females 10.06% (n=153) had more knowledge compared to Males 18.63% (n=199). For HIV/AIDS Prevention (percentage of error) Females 14.28% (n=153) had more knowledge compared to Males 18.78% (n=199). Of those surveyed, 71.31% (n=352) knew about transmission and 66.94% (n=352) about prevention. Students have errors in their answers, with Transmission 28.69% (n=352) and 33.06% (n=352) for Prevention. Conclusion: female students had more knowledge about the transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS when compared to male students.
