The use of ON and UP in an enunciative perspective - reflections for foreign language teaching

This work is part of the theoretical framework called Theory of Predicative and Enunciative Operations (TOPE), proposed by the French linguist Antoine Culioli. Our proposal is to establish relations between the teaching of linguistic structures and enunciation, two apparently antagonistic and incompatible fields. For this purpose, we used the prepositions on, and up as the object of study due to the fundamental role this kind of structure plays in the construction of English utterances and because we observe several flaws in the way these marks are taught by the more traditional teaching approaches. Using the culiolian concept of notion as support, we hope to demonstrate how enunciative theories can contribute to a better understanding of the functioning of these structures and, consequently, contribute to the improvement of their teaching.
