This work is part of the theoretical framework called the Theory of Predicative and Enunciative Operations (TOPE) by Antoine Culioli (1990). We propose to use the Culiolian concept of Notion to present an alternative to what we identify as an excessively “instrumental” approach to teaching foreign languages, present, above all, in traditional teaching. To this end, we analyze ten occurrences of the English mark over, which represents a didactic challenge due to its enormous polysemy. At the end of this study, we hope to demonstrate how enunciation can contribute to teaching grammar.
