This review aims to present and discuss the book Precarização da Escola Pública [Precarization of
Public Schools] (Silva et al., 2022). Part of the collection Educação e os Desafi os da Escola Pública [Education
and the Challenges of Public Schools], published by CRV, the work brings together eleven chapters that examine, from multiple perspectives, the eff ects of neoliberalism, historical inequalities, and the weaknesses of educational policies on Brazilian public schools. The authors, drawing on their professional experiences, discuss topics such as school failure, teaching conditions and intensification of work, gender inequalities, the impacts of the pandemic, regulatory policies, the implementation of ethnic-racial guidelines, learning assessment, and combating homophobia in schools. Although some chapters repeat themes or make little progress in their proposals, the work off ers a comprehensive and accessible diagnosis of the precarious state of schools and highlights the urgency of policies that guarantee rights, equity, and better working and learning conditions.
