Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the works O cabelo de Lelê by Valéria Belém and Com qual penteado eu vou? by Kiusam de Oliveira, from the perspective of representativeness and positive representations for/of black children's curly hair in contexts of everyday life. Using a qualitative approach, this study proposes a comparative analysis of anti-racist children's works (Carvalhal, 2006). Based on the analysis, we characterize the two works as anti-racist literature, as they propose a positive view of curly hair, deconstructing racist patterns by narrating experiences lived by black children. By reading or listening to the works, black children will learn that their phenotypical characteristics are African ancestral heritage, leading them to value their ethnic belonging.
